3 Copywriting Tips For Social Media Ads

From a copywriting standpoint, here are 3 simple strategies that you can use to attract new leads with social media ads

1. Add Value First

Before you start anything, you need to understand something…

You can’t get something without giving first.

And what I mean is… you need to give something away for free. Something valuable that actually solves one of your audience’s problems.

The main point of this is to get the attention and spark some interest for cold leads to your brand.

That’s why businesses create Youtube videos that give away free advice to help people solve their real problems. It’s why businesses write articles and blog posts. They also give away free guides, pdfs, e-books, masterclasses and more. The list goes on and on.

Here’s an example from a drum education brand:

You wanna do this because it opens a relationship with your audience. it’s important that you lead magnet gets them some results in advance. But it only solves a part of their problems. If they want more help, you would introduce them to your paid products or services.

Here are some examples of lead magnets you could use: Checklists, Free consultations, and Cheat sheets

Then once you’ve got your lead magnet, you can move on to creating the ad. Then you need to…

2. Catch Their Attention With Text

Now this is one of the most important points. A catchy headline and creative is what makes scrollers stop, look at your ad, and read it. Without getting this right, you’ve already lost the battle before it even begun.

Did you know 80% of people scrolling through Facebook will not read past the first few words of the ad?

You see…

The average person is bombarded with over 1700 ads per month, and they do not remember most of what they see. That means most people do not pay attention to ads. They just quickly scroll past it.

Which is why it is so critical to have a good headline. You need to make people stop scrolling and read the rest of the text in the ad. Otherwise, you’re just throwing money into the air!

So let’s get some ideas going…

Here are a few headline examples to get people’s attention:

  • Novelty – Communicate that something is new. For example “Introducing The World’s First Self-Cleaning Water Bottle.
  • Education – Use FYI hooks with the purpose of educating. For example, “Did you know that 50% of businesses don’t survive past 5 years?
  • Benefit – Tell people what they can get, achieve, or benefit. For example, “Learn The Secrets To Playing Guitar Just Like Slash.”
  • Calling Out The Audience – Call out your prospects using demographics or experiences. For example, “Attention Toronto Drummers…
  • FOMO – People inherently don’t want to miss out, so you can use this to your advantage to catch attention. Here’s an example, “7 Netflix Shows Everyone’s Talking About Right Now…

With these hooks, you increase your chances of stopping scrollers dead in their tracks, getting you more leads.

3. Catch Their Attention Visually

Now, the last important piece of the puzzle is the ad creative, which is the ad image. This plays a big part in catching the attention of scrollers, just like Youtube thumbnails do.

The main thing that I want to say about this is… It’s a very good idea to use a human face in the ad creative.

Why?

Well, according to studies, 91.7% of ads with faces attract more attention than ads without faces. Humans are just hardwired to gravitate towards real people they can see and connect with. It’s harder to trust something when you can’t even see a real person on the other side.

So make sure that you look friendly and approachable. You can also show some emotions, like being shocked, laughing, confused etc…

Then along with the face, you would have text in the image as well to contribute in hooking people’s attention.

Now, If you’re wondering how to create an ad creative, there are photo editing tools like canva. It’s fairly easy to use even for beginners. You can either learn it through Youtube tutorials, or you can have a professional designer help you out.

So There You Have It…

Those are 3 quick tips to optimize your Facebook ads to bring you as much leads as possible.

Remember, this is the first and one of the most important parts of the sales funnel. So it’s important to get it right so that you don’t overspend and lose money on ads.

So try it out. You can test different things to see which performs best. And enjoy.
